In occupied Kashmir, protests and scuffle broke out between prisoners and prison authorities in Central Jail Srinagar, last night.

Protests erupted late Thursday evening after jail inmates objected to repair and reinforcement work inside a barrack by the authorities and also the word spread that some inmates were being shifted out of the Kashmir valley.

At least a dozen inmates including Hurriyat leaders and activists were injured as Indian police and troops used brute force against the protesting inmates. Dozens of pro-freedom people are lodged in the prison. Three barracks and a building suffered damages amid a number of blasts inside the jail.

Locals talking to media men said that sound of teargas shelling were heard from inside the jail.
