PPP moves court for changing BISP name.


LAHORE -- Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has filed a petition before the Lahore High Court against a federal government's move to change name of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

In a petition filed through Advocate Abid Saqi, PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira submitted that the PPP government had launched BISP in 2010 to provide financial assistance to poor and deserving segments of the society.

He said the BISP was initiated under a legal cover after the then parliament had passed a law titled 'Benazir Income Support Programme Act 2010' and he was nominated its first chairman.
