'Power thieves' attack Hesco recovery team; five injured.


HYDERABAD -- Five officials of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) were seriously injured on Tuesday when a group of alleged power thieves attacked them during an ongoing recovery campaign at Hesco office in Kotri town.

According to a Hesco spokesperson, the five officials were attacked in the line of duty included sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Shahbaz sub-division Riaz Arbab, one lineman Ghulam Qadir Sehto, and three assistant linemen Zaheer Ahmed Mughal, Raz Mohammad and Muqqabil Pathan.

During a visit to Khanzada Colony, when they were in the process of disconnecting 200KV pole-mounted transformer, around 50 people armed with sticks, cudgels and guns attacked them. They also resorted to aerial firing to scare away the staffers.

The injured staffers were shifted to Kotri taluka hospital and later referred to Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro for further treatment.

Lineman Ghulam Qadir Sehto was in a critical condition as he had suffered head injuries.
