Power project workers put off protest due to Eid.

MANSEHRA -- The former Suki Kanari hydropower project workers have announcement the delaying of their sit-in here until after Eidul Fitr holidays.

The workers have been protesting for the last four days to demand salary withheld for three months and reinstatement.

'We are postponing our protest until May 27 as we don't want to create problems for the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid,' president of the labour body Tahir Hussain Shah told reporters here on Saturday.

He said the company working on the hydropower project in Kaghan valley had asked more than 1,600 labourers to stay home over the Covid-19 lockdown but didn't pay them salary for three months.

'The government has clearly ordered companies and business entities to pay salary to workers regularly but the company executing this mega energy project has declined to pay salary,' he said.

Threaten to block work over nonpayment of salary

Mr Shah said the project workers had blocked the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road since May 20, while the company first announced dialogue with them but later refused.

'We will resume after Eid holidays and will continue with it until our all demands are met,' he said.
