Policeman hurt by robbers over resistance.

KARACHI -- A police officer was shot and injured by robbers over resistance in New Karachi on Wednesday, according to police.

They added that sub-inspector Shakeel Ahmed, 55, posted at the New Karachi Industrial Area's investigation wing was shot and injured during robbery resistance near his home in Sector 5-G.

Area SHO Chaudhry Tufail said three armed robbers riding a motorbike snatched a cell phone from the officer. As he put up resistance, the muggers opened fire on him and fled along with his phone. The injured officer was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Seven suspects injured in 'encounters'

The police on Wednesday claimed to arrest seven suspected robbers in wounded conditions after encounters in different areas of the metropolis.

Site Superhighway IndustArial Area police claimed to hurt two muggers during an 'encounter' at Ayub Goth off Superhighway.

They said that two suspects - Imran alias Chapra and Waleed - were apprehended in wounded condition, and two pistols and a motorbike were recovered from their possession. The suspects were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
