Police accused of supporting extortionists in Darra Adamkhel.

KOHAT -- The tribesmen have accused the police of supporting people extorting money from the owners of coal mines in Zarghun Khel area of Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision.

The tribesmen said armed people with trucks came to the area on Monday and attempted to load coal onto the trucks from the disputed mines, which had been closed for last two months. They said the drivers wearing masks said they had got government permission to load coal.

Malik Akbar, a resident of Zarghun Khel, alleged that about 15 masked men accompanied by police came to the area, but the local tribesmen got suspicious and snatched arms from them, and later handed them over to police. He accused the police of being hand in glove with the extortionists and coal snatchers.

SHO Darra Amjid Khan said soon after getting information they held eight alleged extortionists and registered cases against them. He said the lease holder and the mines owner were at large who would be captured soon.

The SHO said people led by Khayal Mohammad of Peshawar scuffled with the local people.
