PMA insists on complete lockdown in Multan.

MULTAN -- The district administration has identified areas for smart lockdown in the city to control the spread of coronavirus.

The recommendation has been sent by Deputy Commissioner Aamir Khattak to impose smart lockdown in K, H and D blocks of Shah Rukn-e-Alam Colony and V and Y blocks of New Multan.

Presiding over a meeting here on Wednesday, the DC said that the areas would be locked down for 14 days and the services of a mobile unit of doctors would be available to the people of the areas which are going to be locked. He said any resident of these areas could call the mobile unit. He said various areas of the city were being monitored, however, there was no reality in the reports to lock down 39 areas of the city.

Meanwhile, the district chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association demanded complete lockdown in the city for two weeks.

Addressing a press conference, the PMA office-bearers led by its president Dr Masoodur Rauf Hirraj said that the provincial and district governments were requested several times to impose strict lockdown but the administration had failed to even have the SOPS implemented.

'The number of coronavirus cases has been on the rise as there are 105 patients in seven isolation wards of the Nishtar Hospital out of which 50 per cent are serious and are taking oxygen mechanically,' said Dr Hirraj.

He said daily 20 to 30 patients with coronavirus symptoms were being admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
