PM asked to respond to contempt petition.

PESHAWAR -- The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday sought replies from the prime minister and five others on a petition seeking their prosecution for committing contempt of a special court, which had sentenced former military ruler retired General Pervez Musharraf to death for committing high treason.

A bench consisting of Justice Lal Jan Khattak and Justice Ijaz Anwar issued the order after preliminary hearing of the petition filed by advocate Syed Azizuddin Kakakhel who also requests the court to disqualify prime minister and other respondents from holding any public office for the offence of committing contempt of court.

The petition is filed under Article 204 of the Constitution read with Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003.

The respondents in the petition are: Prime Minister Imran Khan, federal minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, the then federal law minister Barrister Farogh Naseem, former special assistant to PM Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, special assistant to prime minister on accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar and former attorney general Anwar Mansoor Khan.

The petitioner said the federal government had constituted a special court after filing a complaint against retired general Pervez Musharraf and deputed a prosecution team headed by senior lawyer Akram Sheikh.

He added that the charge was framed against Musharraf on Feb 18, 2014, after the convict left the country to avoid trial.
