PKLI's BoGs reconstituted; number of bureaucrats slashed.

LAHORE -- The Punjab government has re-constituted the Board of Governors (BoGs) of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) for a period of three-year, changing its composition by reducing representation of bureaucracy in the body.

The government also notified appointment of internationally acclaimed senior doctor Prof Saeed Akthar as new chairperson of the 14-member BOGs which was formed for a term of three year. The Punjab chief minister will be the patron-in-chief of the board.

The term of the last BoGs had expired on May 10 and during his first official visit to the institute last month, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had given instructions to the provincial authorities for the nomination of new members to give a prime role to Prof Saeed Akhtar.

Under the new arrangement, the Punjab government has cut down the number of bureaucrats as members of the PK and LI board from six to four.

As per sources, showing his displeasure at 'over-representation' of bureaucrats in the BoGs, the PM had issued directions to rationalise their number after he was informed that the bureaucracy was dominating the top PKLI body to get decisions of its choice.
