Pindi admin blames millers for failing to set up sugar fair price shops.

RAWALPINDI -- The district administration failed to set up fair price shopsforsugar on Sunday as,according to its spokesperson, the sugar mill association has not supplied sugar at the stalls.

The sugar crisis in the city deepened as the commodity has vanished from the market. Even if available at some shops it was being sold at Rs80 to Rs85 per kg instead of official price of Rs70 per kg.

Customers expressed their anger over the increase in the price ofsugarand said the government had failed to control prices despite making tall claims.

`I bought sugar from Ch Bostan Khan Road near Chaklala Scheme-III at Rs80 per kg while my brother, who lived at Committee Chowk, did not find sugar in his market,` said Irfan Naseem, a resident of Yousaf Colony.He said the rates of sugar were different in the city. He said the district administration should maintain same price in all the markets of the city to the benefit of the people.

Ehsan Malik, a resident of Westridge-HI, said sugar was available Rs80 per kg in the markets near his house. He said that he got sugar from a super store in Westridge Bazaar.

Abdul Rehman, a visitor to Narankari Bazaar, said thegovernment had turned a blind eye to sugar prices. He said the price ofsugarremained low during the last five years.

Saleem Raja, a resident of Committee Chowk, said he would buy sugarat Rs54 per kg last year in the open marl(et but in a year the price shot up and the administration did nothing.
