PIC clash: IHC bench withdraws contempt notice against bar secretary.

ISLAMABAD -- The deadlock between Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Islamabad High Court Bar Association has ended after withdrawal of contempt notice against bar Secretary Muhammad Umair Baloch.

According to details, the notice was retracted on the appearance of the bar members before the court in connection with Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) clash.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Manallah said that we don't believe in sentencing anyone on contempt of court. Won't let any third force to take advantage from this situation, he added.

The CJ remarked the bench is strong if it has firm bar and hoped that the bar members will protect the freedom of judiciary.

Meanwhile, bar members including its President Raja Inam and Ameen Minhas said that they appeared in the court to show respect for the court.

'We don't believe in awarding sentences in contempt proceedings,' Justice Athar Minallah said. 'It was a painful decision to issue the show cause notice,' the Chief Justice IHC said. 'You arrived yesterday, it is sufficient if a person realizes matter,' the top judge said in an interchange with the officials of the Bar. 'We have appeared in the court for your respect,' the bar officials told the judge.

'We believe the bar will protect independence of the judiciary,' the justice further remarked. 'The third force will not be allowed to take benefit of the situation,'...
