Petition against Ibrar's appointment as PRCS chairman dismissed.

ISLAMABAD -- Singer and ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf member Ibrarul Haq retained the post of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society's (PRCS) chairman as the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday dismissed the petition filed against his appointment.

The former PRCS chairman, Saeed Ilahi, filed the petition against the notification of Mr Haq's appointment as PRCS chairman under Article 199 of the Constitution.

Mr Ilahi contended in the petition that his term, which was extended for a period of three years on March 9, 2017, will expire on March 9 next year, but the PTI government had removed him from his post and appointed Mr Haq PRCS chairman.

Mr Ilahi's counsel, Advocate Mansoor Ahmed, argued before the court that the PRCS was established under the Pakistan Red Crescent Society Act, 1974 and its managing body has been empowered to make rules for it.

He drew the attention of the court to the Rule 11(b) in support of his contention that the term of the chairperson of the managing body of the Society is fixed for a period of three years unless he/she resigns earlier.

He argued that there was no power vested in the president of the country to remove the PRCS chairman before the guaranteed fixed term.
