People are being deprived of democracy by not holding LB polls: SC.

ISLAMABAD -- Justice Qazi Faez Isa of Supreme Court (SC) has remarked ' it will have to be told why the Local Bodies (LB) polls are not being held and why the people are being deprived of democracy.

He further remarked ' SC orders are being violated by not holding LB polls. Have the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members not seen their oath . Hate should not be fomented among the people instead of love. Then it is said the deprivations have not ended. Is Chief Minister (CM) Punjab step for abolishing LB institutions legal. Why the constitutional requirements are not being met for holding LB polls. Is it not the responsibility of federation to hold LB polls. Baluchistan was the first province which held the LB polls first of all. Are the new laws must every time for holding LB polls.

He observed if CEC is not working as per constitution then what he does the whole day long.

Addressing the CEC he observed what are your daily pre-occupations. You are head of a constitutional institution. Your existence is subject to implementation of constitution otherwise your position is nothing. You are head of a constitutional institution. You are not subordinate to NCOC. Retired judges are too part of election commission. Will we have to teach constitution to them now. Local bodies are political nurseries. The political leadership takes birth from them. It seems as if election commissioner is subordinate to someone else rather than constitution. If you cannot discharge constitutional obligations then give resignation and enjoy pension. All the institutions are bound to extend cooperation to you. The unpopular governments shy from holding LB polls. You should satisfy your conscience rather than the court.
