Peace committee member, 4 others die in Swat blast.

SWAT -- At least five people including the head of local peace committee died in a bomb blast in Barra Bandai area of Kabal tehsil on Tuesday evening, police said.

Local police said that the peace committee head identified as Idrees Khan, along with his two personal bodyguards, and two policemen, was on his way home when his vehicle was targeted with a remote controlled explosive device planted by unknown miscreants on Barra Bandai Road.

As a result of the blast, Idrees Khan, two policemen and his two bodyguards were martyred. Soon after receiving information, Kabal police reached the site of the blast and collected evidence. Police later launched the search operation in the area to nab the perpetrators involved.

Peace committees, also called village defence committees, were constituted across Swat after the Taliban took control of the area between 2007 and 2009. As per local residents, the members of these committees fought against Taliban militants to protect their villages and union councils.
