There are many myths about Lahore's foundation. According to Hindu legends, son of Rama, Loh, founded the city, the name Lohawar. However, we know almost zero to little of its history of the settlement before Muslims' advent in the city. Lahore's golden age begins with Mughal rule over India. The city assumes great significance under Shah Jahan's rule, but then the Mughal rulers move to other cities. Lahore gains importance once again under Ranjit Singh.
