Pashto writer Hamdard passes away at 53.

PESHAWAR -- Prof Humayun Hamdard, noted Pashto poet, research scholar and playwright, breathed his last at Lady Reading Hospital here on Monday.

He was 53. He was admitted to the hospital 14 days ago due to a stroke of haemorrhage. He left behind two sons, two daughters and widow to mourn his death. He was laid to rest in his village Kheshgi Payan in Nowshera.

Prof Hamdard was recipient of best drama writer award and many other commendation certificates for his quality contents. He enjoyed a high repute among Pashto and Urdu literary circles.

Prof Hamdard was affiliated with different literary organisations including Pakhto, Adabi Jirga Kheshgi, Markazi Pakhto Adabi Jirga Naukhar and Neelaab Pakhto Adabi Jirga.

Pashto and Urdu literary circles and artists have condoled with the bereaved family of the deceased writer and have also have appealed to culture directorate and the chairman of Academy of Letters, Islamabad to extend some financial assistance as the writer had also to support family of his late elder brother.

Saidul Amin Ahsan, a close companion of the late writer, said that Prof Hamdard was progressive literati, who had set new trends in almost all Pashto literary genres.

He said that he was groomed up under the literary giants like Qalandar Momand, and Farhad Mohamad Ghalib Tareen and a few others. 'He would remain humble and polite and would always keep low profile...
