Parents urged to help eliminate polio virus.

RAWALPINDI -- Paediatricians belonging to private hospitals and clinics have emphasised that vaccination of children belonging to the high risk and mobile communities should continue on a priority basis as long as Punjab remains at the risk of polio virus reinfection due to movement of population from endemic zones.

The suggestion came at a workshop organised ahead of the March 13 special polio immunisation campaign. The campaign is being held in 13 districts of Punjab - Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, DG Khan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Layyah, Mianwali, Multan, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura and Sialkot.

Representatives from the Punjab Paediatric Association, including its President Professor Dr Tariq Sheikh and members Dr Idrees Mazhar, Dr Mudassar, Dr Rai Asghar, participated in the workshop. District Health Officer (DHO) Rawalpindi Dr Amer Sheikh represented the health department.

The workshop was organised by the health department Rawalpindi in collaboration with international polio eradication partners. The DHO appealed to the parents to help government eliminate polio.
