Paramedics to launch protest drive for rights.

HYDERABAD -- Paramedical Staff Joint Action Committee Sindh members announced on Monday that they would stage phase-wise protests to press the government to fulfill their demands immediately.

The committee members Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, Mohammad Sharif Palari, Khadim Hussain Mastoi and others told media persons at a press conference at local press club that in the first phase they would hold peaceful protest by wearing black armbands during duty hours and in the second phase, they would start boycotting out-patient departments for two hours from 9 am to 11am from Jan 6 to 14.

They said that if the government did not issue any notification for their demands, they would stage a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club on Jan 15 and continue the protest till the fulfillment of all their demands.

They presented a charter of demands that included call for formation of time-scale for both the paramedics and the supporting staff, 30 per cent health professional allowance, convening of departmental promotion committee, cancellation of recovery letters and others.

They said that around 70,000 paramedics had been facing injustice for years despite the fact that they were like a backbone for the health department.
