PAMI wants its two nominees in transition committee.

LAHORE -- The Pakistan Association of Private Medical and Dental Institutions (PAMI) has demanded inclusion of at least its two representatives in the transition committee that was formed by the Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Medical Council.

The committee has been formed to give important recommendations regarding the role to be assumed by the PMC and the HEC in the matters of accreditation, laying down curriculum, inspections, grant of recognition to medical and dental institutions, registration of students, standards for appointment of faculty, mechanisms, registration of students, standards for appointment of faculty, mechanisms for dealing with any violations by institutions and recognition of medical journals etc, besides other matters relevant to medical and dental colleges, their students and teachers.

'We are an association representing medical and dental institutions in the private sector and the biggest stakeholder in the medical education and healthcare sector, with membership from all over the country,' reads a press release issued by the PAMI here on Thursday.

It stated that of total 176 medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, 114 are in the private sector.

The PAMI members contribute 57,000 beds to the Pakistan's healthcare system and have a more than 50,000 strong student body.
