Pakistani varsities urged to showcase achievements to bag global ranking.

ISLAMABAD -- Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed on Wednesday emphasised that Pakistani universities needed to collate data and highlight their achievements in the submissions made to global ranking agencies.

It is relevant to note that merely a few Pakistani universities are among the top 500 varsities across the world.

The chairman underlined that in terms of the ranking requirements, the standards of Pakistani universities were different from those in other parts of the world.

He was speaking at an international seminar on 'Pakistan's Growing Global Impact: A Data Masterclass by the Times Higher Education (THE)' for the public and private-sector universities of Pakistan at the HEC Secretariat on Wednesday.

Representatives of universities from different parts of the country took a keen interest in the explanations of parameters and standards set by THE in the global rankings. The event focused on 'THE World University Ranking' and other rankings relevant to the region.

'During the last two decades, the HEC has done a pretty good job in the higher education sector, and I am confident that if our universities learn from this opportunity and position themselves accordingly by showcasing their achievements, the global landscape of top universities will include many Pakistani institutes,' the chairman said.
