Pakistan suffers from food insecurity due to climate change, water scarcity: Sherry Rehman.

ISLAMABAD -- Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman on Wednesday assumed the charge of the Ministry of Climate Change.

Secretary Ministry of Climate Change Kazim Niaz and other officials briefed Federal Minister Senator Sherry Rehman, said a news release.

Senator Rehman said Pakistan was suffering from food insecurity due to climate change and water scarcity.

She added that climate change was a very important and serious issue in developing countries, adding, "Climate change is a fundamental issue for me, we need to implement our priorities quickly".

"I will soon present the climate change policy in the Cabinet, and will set up a climate change council with all the provinces in 100 days", Senator Rehman said.

She added that environmental degradation, air pollution, smog eradication, water scarcity, public awareness and other important issues were among the policy priorities of the government.

"Climate change is affecting not only Pakistan but the whole world, where Pakistan ranks 5th in list of countries affected by climate change", Sherry Rehman said.

She underlined Pakistan was ranked third among the countries facing severe water shortage.

"Climate change, air pollution, drought and temperature are having devastating effects on Pakistan", the Minister said.
