Pakistan ranking in SDGs drops from 115 in 2016 to 134 in 2020.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's ranking has dropped on the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) index from 115 in 2016 to 134 in 2020.

In regional context also Pakistan is worst performer and at the bottom of the South Asian countries in the overall performance of SDGs, official documents reveal. Except India and Pakistan whose rankings have dropped in the last four years (2016-20), all other South Asian countries have upgraded their standings on the SDGs index, official documents available with The Nation reveal.

SDGs are the post-2015 UN Global Development Agenda from 2015 to 2030 and all the UN member states have adopted and committed to implement it. Pakistan had signed SDGs back in 2015. The SDGs comprise 17 goals, 169 targets and 246 indicators. In the global index, countries are ranked by their overall score. The overall score measures a country's total progress towards achieving all 17 SDGs. The score can be interpreted as the percentage of SDG achievement. A score of 100 indicates that all SDGs have been achieved.

In south Asia as per the SDG index, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka have improved their ranking while the rankings of India and Pakistan ranking have dropped.

In 2016 Bangladesh's ranking in the global SDGs was 118, Bhutan 82, India 110, Nepal 103, Sri Lanka 97, and Pakistan was 115. In 2020 Bangladesh gone up to 109, Bhutan to 80,Nepal to 96 and Sri Lanka to 94. The ranking of India and Pakistan dropped to 117 and 134 respectively.
