Pakistan Forms Friends Group To Ensure HR Protection.

ISLAMABAD -- Taking a lead role as follow up after adoption of historic resolution on countering disinformation, Pakistan at the UN has formed Group of Friends (GoF) on Countering Disinformation for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms

The launch of the group, which initially consisted of twenty countries, would take place at the UN in New York on Thursday June23 which would also be the first meeting of the group.

'The first meeting of the Group of Friends would focus on global approaches to countering disinformation,' Ambassador Munir Akram told The Nation on phone from New York.

He said disinformation is a disease which has affected the entire world and Pakistan has been a major victim of disinformation.

The GoF meeting would focus on 'Global Approaches to Countering Disinformation' and would coordinate the efforts under the UN resolution passed last year on Pakistan initiative. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be a Keynote speaker and deliver his recorded statement at the beginning...
