PA resolution for moving world bodies on Kashmir.

LAHORE -- The Punjab Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution, asking the UN and other world bodies to make India end its illegal annexation of Kashmir and withdraw the recent controversial citizenship law that disallows Muslims from neighbouring countries become its citizens.

The resolution was moved by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insafs' Uzma Kardar which asked the house to request the UN and other world bodies through the federal government to make India do the needful in occupied Kashmir.

The resolution said the house strongly condemned and rejected the recent Indian actions against Indian Muslims and Kashmiris. 'This house thinks that human rights are being constantly trampled in India and Muslims are being targeted,' it said.

It said India first illegally annexed Kashmir and clamped longest ever lockdown there. And now Muslims were being targeted on the basis of biased citizenship law.

Members from both sides of the divide supported the resolution which was passed unanimously.

Earlier, law minister Raja Basharat told the house that the government did not intend to abolish the office of lambardar. A state land development committee had discussed the idea of withdrawing the land given to lambardars to utilise it for generating revenue. However, no decision was taken in this regard.

He assured the members that any decision in this regard would be taken only with the house's consent. He said the role of lambardar had been reduced because of various reasons.

The issue was agitated by PML-N's Muhammad Arshad who asked the government to clarify if the office of lambardar was being abolished, citing its several functions to underline its importance for the state. His party colleagues -- Munawar Ghous and Waris Kalloo -- supported him.

Replying to several adjournment motions minister Samiullah Chaudhry said the Punjab Food Authority was actively taking action against those selling adulterated, unhygienic food and cooking oil and producing bottles with used and contaminated plastic.
