Overcharging by vegetable vendors.

SAHWAL -- The district price control committees have failed to control the rates of vegetables.

Consumers complain that the vendors have arbitrarily increased the prices of almost all vegetables despite the fact that the District Market Committee daily issues price list.

Potato is supposed to be sold at Rs40, onion at Rs50, lady's finger at Rs80, bitter gourd at Rs80, cauliflower at Rs60, tomato at Rs80, ginger at Rs240, garlic at Rs240 and peas at Rs140.

Many people in Farid Town said the vegetable vendors had been charging 30 to 40pc more than the official prices. They demanded that the price control committees should be made accountable for negligence.
