Options being explored to establish landfill site for capital.

ISLAMABAD -- The city managers are discussing various options to finalise the landfill site for the capital as they will have to submit a report in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) next month.

Sources in CDA said on Feb 6, the IHC will hear a case regarding the landfill site and the authority is required to submit its reply about steps being taken for setting up the site. They said the CDA was exploring four sites - one near Rawat Mandra, near Kallar Syedan and one in Islamabad's Zone IV while an option to set up a new landfill site near Taxila is also being discussed by planning wing of the CDA.

However, so far, no site has been finalised. Sources said that three out of four under discussion sites fall in the jurisdiction of the Punjab government and if finalised, the CDA will request the government for land acquisition.

'Nothing is finalised yet, but the planning wing held several meetings on this subject during the last few weeks. Hopefully, soon a suitable site will be finalised,' said an officer of CDA. Currently, the CDA is disposing of solid waste at a dumping site of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) at Losar, Chak Beli Khan Rawalpindi.
