Nursing student climbs up water tank 'to commit suicide'.

NAROWAL -- A nursing school student on Wednesday threatened to commit suicide by jumping from around 100-meter high water tank on the campus, after she was expelled from the institution on the orders of the district health authority chief executive officer.

Salma Rafique, daughter of Muhammad Rafique, a resident of Bherhian, Shakargarh tehsil, has been enrolled for two-year Community Health Midwife Course at the General Nursing School, District Complex.

On charges of remaining absent from duty and misconduct, she was expelled from the school on the orders of the district health authority CEO.

On Wednesday, Ms Rafique climbed up the 100-meter high water tank on the campus and threatened to commit suicide.

The nursing school administration informed the police and Rescue 1122 about the situation. Responding to the call, teams of Rescue 1122 and Narowal Saddar police station rushed to the spot and engaged the student in negotiations led by SHO Shoaib Kamran, assuring her of justice. After convincing the student, the rescuers safely brought her down from the tank.
