Nurses at Covid-19 centres seek salary, regularisation of jobs.

UMERKOT -- A large number of nurses, who were recently hired by Sindh government to combat Covid-19 pandemic, held demonstrations in several Thar towns on Friday, demanding regularisation of jobs, provision of risk allowance and salaries.

More than 40 staff nurses who staged protests outside isolation centres in Umerkot, Samaro, Kunri, Pithoro and Shadi Palli towns told media persons that they did not want extension in the three-month contracts they had been offered twice and appealed to Sindh chief minister and PPP chairman to fulfil their promises about regularising their jobs.

They said that they were among the 2,300 qualified nurses who had passed written test conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission but only 1,200 offered their services in fight against Covid-19.

They were first offered a contract of 89 days and after the end of the tenure they were again forced to accept a contract of 90 days.

The protesters' leaders Saqib Khoso, Sheela Devi, Moosa Samejo and others said that they had served around three months in the pandemic emergency. They gave up their previous jobs...
