No harm if provincial, NA polls held together after August: PPP.

LAHORE -- The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes there is no harm if elections to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies are delayed till the term of the National Assembly also completes in August.

PPP Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza told a press conference here on Sunday that there's no harm if elections for the provincial assemblies and National Assembly were held at the same time. What mattered immediately was the need to improve the economy, not elections, he remarked.

He held Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan responsible for the deterioration of the economy and inflation, saying the former prime minister had signed agreements with the foreign lenders causing the ongoing wave of price hike in the country. But, he promised, the incumbent government would provide relief to the masses in due time. The PPP leader said party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was trying to bring people of Pakistan out of isolation and the economic crisis.

Responding to a question, he said Mr Khan accused former president Asif Ali Zardari of planning assassination attempts on him without evidence. 'The PTI chairman should come up with proof of his allegation.'

He said the PPP would serve a legal notice on Imran Khan for leveling baseless allegations on Mr Zardari. He further said Mr Khan's 'nonsensical rhetoric' was an attempt to remain politically relevant.
