Nishtar varsity yet to have VC after Dr Pasha's death.

MULTAN -- The provincial government has failed to appoint the Nishtar Medical University vice chancellor even after passage of more than six months.

The seat fell vacant after the death of former VC Prof Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha.

According to the section 12, subsection 9 of the Nishtar Medical University Act 2017 'if the office of the Vice Chancellor is vacant or the Vice Chancellor is absent or is unable to perform the functions of the Vice Chancellor owing to any cause, the Pro-Vice Chancellor shall perform the functions of the Vice Chancellor' while as per subsection 10 of the same section 'the Pro-Vice Chancellor or any other person acting as Vice Chancellor under subsection (9) shall not, in any case, perform the functions of the Vice Chancellor for the period of more than six months and the Chancellor shall, within that period, ensure appointment of the Vice Chancellor under this section.'

In July 2018, the provincial government appointed Prof Dr Pasha as the VC of the University for a four-year tenure, after the Supreme Court on April 14, had terminated the former VC Dr Hussain Tanvir and directed the government to form a search committee to make fresh appointment.
