Newly-formed PMC elects president, vice president.

ISLAMABAD -- The new Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) on Monday elected Dr Arshad Taqi as president and Advocate Ali Raza as vice president of the body, which would deal with the issues related to medical education and doctors.

Moreover, Dr Nasiruddin was appointed as temporary secretary of the commission and after three months the post of secretary would be filled through advertisement.

The first meeting of the commission was held in a five-star hotel of the federal capital. Later a press conference was also held at the same venue.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Zafar Mirza, while speaking to mediapersons, said that three committees had been established to oversee the commission's formation.

'First committee would look into the issues related to PMC. Second one would deal with the financial matters. Third committee would monitor appointment of new employees,' he said.

On Oct 19, President Dr Arif Alvi had promulgated an ordinance dissolving the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and paving the way for establishment of PMC.

On Oct 20, despite Sunday, Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) had sealed the building of the council and terminated the services of 220 employees of the council.
