Neutrality of Turkmenistan.

The path to the understanding of any process lies through understanding the historical facts, their connection with culture and civilization, the spiritual and material development of humanity, the economy, politics and other expressions of human activity.

The modern world, the principles of which are peace, development and cooperation; a world in which the situation has become complicated due to conflicts and wars of a bigger scale and with grave consequences, needs to be studied with application of historical experience, one of which is the phenomenon of the Great Silk Road.

The Great Silk Road contributed to the strengthening of friendship between the countries located along it. Travelers, traders, envoys on various issues actually contributed to the strengthening of interaction and profitable trade relations. Despite the conflicts and feuds, wars and conflicts, caravans were overcoming difficulties and were carrying on their way, laying and strengthening the Great Silk Road, which stimulated the exchange of goods, technologies, ideas and culture.

This in its turn led to economic, cultural and social progress of countries along the Great Silk Road, dialogue and convergence of cultures, the search for new forms of interaction. The Great Silk Road is the most valuable centuries-old experience based on the principles of peace, mutual understanding, openness, tolerance, exchange of experience and cooperation.

It was they, the first merchants and traders who laid the foundations of modern diplomacy, which today has acquired new ideas, forms and methods of work. Studying the historical experience of the Great Silk Road, scientists and politicians of many countries came to the conclusion that it was necessary to recreate the routes of the Great Silk Road in different countries, to reveal the potential of the heritage of this route to maintain intercultural dialogue and to ensure sustainable development.

Today, the world community is facing the global financial crisis, the differentiation of the world economy, environmental disasters, the formation of new forms of trade and investment. It requires a quick response to challenges and timely resolution of problems encountered. This is possible only under the condition of creating new forms of interaction, creating new material and spiritual values.

Turkmenistan as one of the oldest centers of world civilization, being in the center of the Great Silk Road, is now a stronghold of peace, stability in the region and confirms its readiness to develop relations with the countries of the world community based on humanitarian values.

The geopolitical location of Turkmenistan on the important section from the first days of independence made it necessary to build its relations with neighboring countries on the principles of peace, good neighborliness, respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.

These factors determined the historical foreign policy of Turkmenistan - permanent neutrality.

The choice of a model of positive neutrality in the foreign policy by Turkmenistan was determined by the experience gained on the Great Silk Road. These principles allowed to preserve the integrity of the country and laid the foundation for the concept of neutrality.

Cooperation with such major international organizations as the UN, the OSCE, the European Union, the CIS and many others has become the most important aspect of the international activities of Turkmenistan. Cooperation with the UN has strengthened the position of Turkmenistan in the international community. Turkmenistan has been repeatedly elected vice-chairman of the UN General Assembly, twice a member of ECOSOC, is a member of seven commissions, initiated 12 resolutions of the UN General Assembly, 4 of which were adopted at the 72nd session of the UNGA.
