Nepra forms Inquiry Committee to investigate power blackout.

ISLAMABAD -- National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Thursday constituted a three-member Inquiry Committee to investigate the power blackout which had plunged the entire country into darkness.

'National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has constituted the 'Inquiry Committee' to probe into the major power breakdown which occurred on 09-01-2021, and plunged the whole country into darkness,' said an office order issued here. The Inquiry Committee shall present its report before the Authority within 15 days of issuance of this office order i.e. January 29, 2021, said the order.

According to the NEPRA's order available with The Nation, the three members committee will be headed by Director General, NEPRA Nadir Ali Khoso who is the convenor while Manu Ram Manager, and Khalid Mehmood are members. Both the members are from private sector. For the first time experts from private sectors are being inducted in the committee to make the probe more effective, the source said.

As per the Terms of Reference (ToRs] of inquiry committee, the committee will determine, the causes and the faults which resulted in the cascade, tripping and system collapse; to fix the responsibility for the major power breakdown; to review, whether the restoration efforts were adequate and the power supply was restored within the reasonable time; to go through the findings of inquiry reports...
