Nawaz Sharif needs to go abroad for treatment, says head of medical board.

LAHORE -- Former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif needs to go abroad for treatment, says head of the Punjab government's medical board Professor Dr. Mehmood Ayaz, overseeing the treatment of the former prime minister. "Health department should talk to us," he said, adding the medical board set up for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid's treatment would give in writing that he should undergo genetic test from abroad.

His remarks followed a meeting between a 12-member board of the hospital to review Nawaz Sharif's health situation and decide the future course of his treatment.

While talking to media persons, Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Professor Dr. Mehmood Ayaz added the foreign visit would become essential if doctors want to examine his body tissues in order to diagnose the exact cause of his illness. He added the PML-N leader was not facing a minor genetic issue.

Dr Mahmood Ayaz said that the genetic test of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is not possible in Pakistan.

The medical board has suggested to carryout genetic test of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif to diagnose his illness. Dr Mahmood Ayaz also said that some tests of Nawaz Sharif will be conducted from foreign countries. 'No facility is available in Pakistan to treat platelets, heart and block artery under one roof,' he added. However, the doctors allowed Nawaz Sharif to walk and exercise.

Dr Mahmood Ayaz said that there are certain medical tests - including a genetic test - which have been recommended for Nawaz Sharif and which are not available in Pakistan.
