National gender data portal being developed.

ISLAMABAD -- National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and UN Women Pakistan have initiated development of National Gender Data Portal, to improve collection, compiling, production and use of standardised data to fulfil Pakistan's international commitments and devise policies to improve lives of girls and women in Pakistan.

National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust) has been engaged as the technical partner to developthis data portal, which is expected to be launched soon, said a statement issued by UN Women Pakistan.

In the first meeting of the Technical Review Group which was held recently, the partners discussed various aspects of the project and discussed key indicators to be included in the portal.

Ministry of Human Rights Federal Secretary Rabiya Javeri Agha said: 'The National Gender Data Portal is a great initiative by NCSW and UN Women Pakistan, the Ministry of Human Rights fully supports the initiative and we look forward to linking it with the Human Rights Management Information System, which includes all provinces.'

It was highlighted in the meeting that Pakistan has a high degree of gender inequality in terms of opportunities, resources and facilities available to girls and women; Pakistan ranks 151 out of 153 in the latest gender gap report by the World Economic Forum which highlights the need to address these challenges using evidence-based interventions.
