NAB EBM approves new references against Zardari, Nawaz, Gilani, Anwar Majeed, Abdul Ghani Majeed and others.

ISLAMABAD -- The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Executive Board Meeting on Thursday gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Imran Khan's Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and approved closing the inquiry against the politician.

The NAB Executive Board Meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

According to a notification from the anti-corruption body, the decision to close the inquiry against Bukhari was approved owing to lack of evidence. Separately, the NAB approved nine new inquiries in a meeting of its executive board.

It approved new corruption reference in fake bank accounts case against former president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani - both leaders of the Pakistan People's Party - Khawaja Anwar Majeedm Khawaja Abdul Ghani Majeed, as well as former premier and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) supremo, Mian Muhamamd Nawaz Sharif. All three politicians are accused of handing out gift vehicles from the Toshakhana or (the gift depository) against low prices.

The NAB Executive Board Meeting also approved corruption references against former ambassador Kamran Shafi and former Pakistani high commissioner in Britain Wajid Shamsul Hassan. Both are accused of causing harm of $ 27,000 and 28,000 pounds respectively to the national kitty while not following rules and regulations.

The NAB Executive Board also approved corruption references against Abdullah Alvi, Honorary Secretary State Bank of Pakistan Staff Cooperative Housing Society and others for committing fraud with masses at large scale and collecting Rs 7.8 million from them.

Four different investigations have gotten approved by the NAB's board which include probe against corrupt employees of Sindh government's health department, members of procurement committee, programme managers of Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme of Sindh, health minister of Balochistan Rehmat Baloch, former federal minister Mir Aijaz Hussian Jakhrani and others.

Further, an inquiry against the administration of Safe City Project Islamabad was approved. Inquiries against former member National Assembly (MNA), Sardar Ashiq Hussain Gopang, and the former member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA), Chaudhry Shaukat Mahmood Basra, were also approved.
