Murad blames incompetent academia for poor standards.

HYDERABAD -- Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali on Tuesday said that government was facing the serious issue of 'quality human resource', and observed that educational institutions, including universities, in Sindh were not performing. He noted that academia lacked administrative expertise because of which universities were suffering.

The CM was speaking at the opening ceremony of a website of rare books on Sindh and the lunch of three books at Mohammad Hussain Panhwar Institute of Sindh Studies in Jamshoro on Tuesday. He promised all out support for the institute to equip it as per its requirement.

He paid tributes to M.H. Panhwar's services to education and literature and also congratulated his son Sani Panhwar, for his initiative of digitising books on Sindh through this institute, established by government in collaboration with the Institute of Sindhology.

Mr Shah said: 'Unfortunately we are facing deterioration in human resources as far as educational institutions are concerned. While institutions are moving forward, human resource is facing deterioration'.

He said he could not do anything unless he had a treasure of 'doers'. Right from primary level to university level, there was a big vacuum now, now he added.

'Today we can't produce M.H. Panhwar despite having these resources and we see why we are not producing such thinkers. It is because that education standard at the institutions has declined unfortunately, and I will complain it publicly that VCs are paying their attention elsewhere instead of imparting education and this must stop,' he said.

He said he did not find himself competent enough to appoint a vice chancellor given his knowledge and stature, but it was a responsibility on his shoulder. He said search committees proposed the names of three shortlisted candidates. 'Not all the time, but at times after going through three names of candidates, I face problem what should I do,' he said, alluding to quality of competence and expertise of candidates.
