Move to place Pims under Shaheed Bhutto varsity opposed.

ISLAMABAD -- Employees of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Saturday held a protest against government's move to place the hospital under Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University and demanded that the 2018 status of the hospital should be restored.

The Outpatient Department (OPD) of the hospital remained closed for two hours from 9am to 11am.

Speaking to protesters employees' leader Tanveer Noshahi said they would not tolerate any move to give assets of the hospital to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University.

He said the government had passed a bill to repeal the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI), which was commendable, but at the same time it was considering changing the status of the hospital.

'Former health secretary had given us assurance that all the concerns of the employee will be addressed but unfortunately no one bothered to take us into confidence,' he said.

Mr Noshahi demanded that the hospital must be kept into third schedule so that the civil status of employees could be retained.

Young Consultants Association Chairman Asfandyar Khan said it was strange that Pakistan People's Party, before coming into power, used to show solidarity with the employees but now has been following in the footsteps of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
