More PA seats for tribal districts hailed.

LAKKI MARWAT -- Jamaat-i-Islami tribal subdivisions chief Maulana ZahidullahTurabi has hailed the passage of a bill from the National Assembly granting tribal districts more seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

Speaking at an Iftar party in Betani tribal subdivision, he said that the tribal subdivisions, formerly known as Frontier Regions, had been kept deprived of development in the past. The merged tribal areas are backward as the successive governments paid no heed to bring them on par with developed parts of the country,' he regretted.

Mr Turabi said that development of tribal subdivisions scattered over 527 square kilometres could not take place because of no representation at the provincial level. After the 25th constitutional amendment the ECP had allocated one provincial assembly seat to the tribal subdivisions on delimitation basis which will increase to two with the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment bill,' he maintained.

The JI leader asked the government to increase the provincial assembly seats of tribal subdivisions from two to three.
