Montgomery Gymkhana claim opening tie.

KARACHI -- Helped by an undefeated half-century from Wahaj Riaz, Montgomery Gymkhana eased to a five-wicket win over Taj Sports in the opening match of All-Karachi Prof Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi Invitation Cricket Tournament at the TMC Ground here on Sunday.

Man-of-the-match Wahaj struck 68 with seven boundaries as Montgomery Gymkhana reached 185-5 in 37.4 overs after dismissing Taj Sports for 184 in 36.5 overs - a total that included 89 (seven fours and three sixes) from Amir Afridi.

The event was inaugurated by former Pakistan captain Moin Khan in a befitting ceremony attended by ex-KCCA president Prof Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi, tournament secretary Jamil Ahmed, former Test stars Tauseef Ahmed, Asif Mujtaba, Jalaluddin, Azeem Hafeez and Rashid Khan as well ex-internationals Ghulam Ali, Mahmood Hamid, Athar Laiq, former Test umpire Mahboob Shah, Zafar Ahmed, Mohammad Masroor, Mohammad Akram, Jawaid Ahmed Khan and Azam Khan among others.
