'Misdeclaration racket of top healthcare facility detected'.

KARACHI -- The Pakistan Customs on Saturday claimed to have detected a racket run by a topnotch healthcare facility in connivance with a local customs clearing agent under which items, which were not related to the declared objective of the public health facility, were imported and then cleared while enjoying tax and duty exemptions.

'A credible information was received that Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases (MIKD) with active connivance of their authorised clearing agent Mass Traders are indulged in importing and getting cleared the items on suppressed value, which are not related to the declared objective of the Institute, in commercial quantity while availing exemption of duties and taxes under Special Classification Provision,' said a statement issued by the Collectorate of the Customs Appraisement (West) of Pakistan Customs.

'Thus, they have inflicted heavy losses to the legitimate government revenue by availing the exemption which otherwise was not due.
