Mirpurkhas sugar mills resume cane crushing.

MIRPURKHAS -- Sugar mills in the district have announced resumption of cane crushing after a over two weeks of closure, rekindling hopes in growers of getting good returns on their investment and also hefty dues.

Sources said that sugar mills had halted crushing for shortage of cane supply but now the mills' managements had decided to restart boilers after getting sufficient supplies of cane. The mills had started issuing indents to growers, asking them for harvesting and transporting the crop to the mills, said the sources.

The announcement brought back smiles to the faces of farmers who feared their cane crop would keep losing weight as long as it stood in field.

Sindh Abadgar Ittehad district president Chodhry Saifullah Gill said that it was good news for growers because they were in deep financial crisis at the moment and were not even able to buy fertilisers for their wheat crop.
