Minister R.burmaa and State Secretary N.ariunbold to Be Investigated for Embezzlement

Minister of Food and Agriculture R.Burmaa and State Secretary N.Ariunbold are to be investigates by the Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC) for embezzlement.

The Association of Flour Manufacturers and Mongolian Food Producers' Association filed a complaint to the IAAC to have R.Burmaa and N.Ariunbold investigated for embezzlement. IAAC officials suspect R.Burmaa and N.Ariunbold of corruption as their actions "violate the agreement between the ministry and flour manufacturers".

In 2015, Mongolia lost approximately half of its planned crops, according to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in August 2015. Flour producers asked to import flour as they were working with deficits due to rising flour prices.

"Producers can't increase the prices of their products. The ministry will support through policy," the ministry responded after appeals to increase prices by producers.

Last August, the ministry made agreements with bread manufacturers. The agreement states that the ministry will provide ways for bread manufacturers to find cheap flour and provide support. In return, producers were to keep the prices stable.

On December 30, 2015, N.Ariunbold issued a decree on granting permits to import wheat flour in 2016. Two companies had clear preference in the decree, which supported small retailers over producers.
