Nagasaki must never be repeated and with this resolve, Japan will spare no effort in realizing a world free of nuclear weapons while firmly upholding the Three NonNuclear Principles. Based on the policy of "Proactive Contribution to Peace", Japan will continue to contribute to sustaining peace, including through our role in the Peacebuilding commission, and engaging in strengthening institutions and building capacities. Japan also remains committed to the capacity building of peacekeeping personnel in collaboration with Asian and African countries. On top of the financial contribution to the UN as one of the top donors, Japanese people have been actively contributing to various international activities. Two prominent Japanese nationals, Dr. OGATA Sadako and Dr. NAKAMURA Tetsu passed away last year. The dedication of Dr. OGATA, the first female UNHCR representative, a Japanese academic and diplomat as well as Dr. NAKAMURA who devoted his entire life for the medical and development activity in Pakistan and Afghanistan speaks volumes of their dedication and commitment for serving the humanity.
