Medical students advised to focus on research.

LAKKI MARWAT -- National Assembly Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani has stressed the need for focusing on research-based education in medical and other fields.

Addressing as chief guest the first convocation of Bannu Medical College (BMC) on Saturday, he said that promotion of research culture would enable students to counter future challenges effectively.

Caretaker Provincial Minister Nazir Sawal, Khyber Medical University Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq, Registrar Prof Salim Gandapur, Prof Saeedullah Shah, Prof Zakya Khan, faculty members, students and their parents attended the convocation.

About 68 medical graduates were awarded degrees and gold medals at the first convocation of Bannu Medical College.

Mr Durrani also gave away lifetime achievement awards to the former dean, chief executive officer and faculty members of the college.

After distributing degrees and gold medals among the graduates, he said that the medical college established in 2006 was providing quality education to students. He added that the college had produced hundreds of doctors to serve the ailing community.

He felicitated the new graduates and their parents. He said that young doctors should concentrate on research to shine their professional excellence and ensure provision of quality healthcare to patients.

Mr Durrani said that his party established many educational institutes in Bannu and other southern districts as it wanted to bring an educational revolution in the region.
