'Media should sensitise society to child abuse'.

OKARA -- Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for practicing evidence-based instead of speculative reporting and that the media should play a key role in building a violence-free society.

This was highlighted during a seminar at the University of Okara organised by its Department of Communication Studies. The event was chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr Zakariya Zakir.

The event was held in the backdrop of a violent incident a week ago in village 40/4L wherein a man had thrashed two minors while their parents were out of the village.

Speakers deliberated on various aspects of the increasing violence and abuse against children and the role of media in sensitising society about it.

The VC said if any violent incident occurred, the academia and media shared the responsibility because they might have been unable to educate society against it.
