Measures taken against flooding.

CHITRAL -- The district administration of Lower Chitral has taken a number of measures to cope with the emergent situation in case of glacial lake outburst flood (Glof) in Golen Gol valley, anticipated by Provincial Disaster Management Authority during the next three days.

Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed told Dawn that soon after receiving the alert of Glof, he convened a meeting of the officers of the relevant departments and stakeholders and took a number of decisions to mitigate the suffering of the people and minimise the damage to the infrastructure to possibly low level.

He said that early warning system would be put in place with the help of meteorological department and safe destinations would be identified to shift local people there before Glof hit the valley.

Mr Ahmed said that all relief items were being dispatched to Golen valley, situated at a 30-minute drive on Booni Road from the district headquarters. The district health officer will store sufficient quantity of life saving drugs in the valley before the possible eventuality.
