Maulana Sami laid to rest as thousands attend funeral.

Peshawar -- Prominent religious scholar of the country and chief of his own faction of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-S Maulana Sami ul Haq, who was brutally murdered in Rawalpindi on Friday evening was laid to rest amid touching scenes on Saturday afternoon.

His last rituals were held at the Government Degree College Khushhal Khan Khattak in Akora Khattak, the ancestral town of the religious scholar turned politician as thousands of mourners from across the country including his followers and students of his seminary Dar ul Uloom Haqqania as well as foreign dignitaries were in attendance. Sami ul Haq's eldest son and former senator Hamid ul Haq led the funeral prayers and he was buried in the premises of the Madrassa.

Besides, KP Governor Shah Farman, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, PTI leaders, senior PML-N leader Raja Zafar ul Haq, former governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, JI chief Siraj ul Haq, Liaqat Baloch, ANP's Ghulam Ahmed Bilore, Jamaat ud Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed and other attended the funeral of Maulana Sami who also served as Chairman Defense of Pakistan Council.

Envoys of Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar also attended the funeral prayer.

Elaborate security arrangements were made on the occasion with walk-through gates installed at the ground. Mourners had to pass through two separate gates to enter the ground. The police and Frontier Constabulary contingents provided security for the funeral.

Meanwhile, a first information report of Maulana Sami's assassination was registered at the Airport Police Station in Rawalpindi on his son's complaint.

The case was registered against unknown suspects. The police have also released the two domestic staff members of Samiul Haq...
