Man, son drown in Khanpur Dam's canal.

HARIPUR -- A man and his teenage son drowned in the Khanpur Dam's canal here on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

The police quoted witnesses as saying that Ariyan Qureshi, 13, slipped into water while washing his hands on the banks of the canal. They said Nadeem Qureshi, 45, jumped into the water to save his son, but he also drowned.

The police said Nadeem from Rawalpindi was on a picnic to Khanpur Dam with his son and a nephew. Local divers fished out the bodies and shifted them to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Khanpur.
