Man dies in clash between two groups.

ISLAMABAD -- A man died while another was injured during a gun-fight between two rival groups over a land dispute in a rural area of the capital, Dawn has learnt.

Relatives of the victim, after the incident, staged a protest at Rawal Dam Chowk with his coffin and blocked the road.

According to police, two families were embroiled in a dispute over 250 kanals of land in Malot village in the jurisdiction of Banigala since the past few years.

On Thursday, members of one of the families were attacked by their rivals, who were armed with modern weapons. The attackers resorted to indiscriminate firing at their rival's home who also retaliated.

Litigation had been going on over the land in a lower court for two and half years. Two years ago, police approached the capital revenue department for demarcation and establishing ownership, but a response is still awaited. Possession of the land is with two families, police said, adding four clashes have already taken place between both groups, the last of which was nine months ago.

Upon receiving information, the area police reached the spot but could not control the situation due to the number of attackers and use of weapons in excessive quantity. Firing continued for hours from both ends.
